Calling on Chancellor to Use Budget to Abolish Energy Profits Levy to Save Jobs

That the Parliament notes with concern reports that oil and gas activity at the Port of Aberdeen is down by 10% in 2025, increasing to 25% during the summer months, when offshore activity at the port typically peaks with projects and maintenance work; understands that the port’s chief executive is reported to have commented that “the impact of policy uncertainty, fiscal decisions and consenting delays are already being felt”, and that “supporting existing energy business is the most likely way of accelerating the [energy] transition”; believes that these figures illustrate the impact that the UK Government’s policies are having on the North Sea energy industry, in particular the Energy Profits Levy, which was increased and extended by the current Labour administration when it came into power in 2024; further believes that this approach is putting the delivery of the just transition to net zero at risk; urges the UK Government to listen to the evidence from figures in Scotland's North Sea energy industry and change its approach, and calls on the Chancellor, Rachel Reeves, to abolish the Energy Profits Levy when she announces her budget later this month.
