Port of Aberdeen Job Loss Announcement and the Abolition of the Energy Profits Levy

The motion

That the Parliament notes with concern that the Port of Aberdeen is reportedly set to cut jobs due to a sharp fall in North Sea oil and gas activity; recognises that the Port, which was founded in 1136, is the UK’s oldest business and is Scotland’s busiest commercial port; understands that oil and gas activity at the harbour reduced by 25% over the summer and that the rate of decline is outpacing renewables work; believes that in order to achieve a just transition, the UK Government must change its damaging energy policies, and calls on the Chancellor of the Exchequer to abolish the Energy Profits Levy and replace it with a fiscal regime designed to achieve a just transition and to protect jobs, including those at the Port of Aberdeen.
