Congratulations to Wimpy Park Group on Receiving King's Award for Voluntary Service

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Wimpy Park Community Group, in Alloa, on being awarded The King’s Award for Voluntary Service 2025; notes that this is the highest award given to local volunteer groups in the UK, recognising exceptional, volunteer-led contributions to communities and awarded for life; believes that, over the past eight years, the group’s volunteers have worked alongside local partners and with strong community support and have transformed Wimpy Park, which is a historic walled garden in Alloa South and East, into a vibrant, safe and welcoming space, including a play park, community garden and football area, all enjoyed by people of all ages across the community; highlights that the group also organises five annual community events, namely the Easter Egg Hunt, Summer Fete, Zombie Walk, a Christmas party for local children and a pensioners’ Christmas dinner; recognises that Wimpy Park has been widely cited as a positive example of community-led regeneration, including being chosen for a BBC Beechgrove makeover project and showcased to MSPs and the Presiding Officer during a visit to Sauchie and Alloa in January 2025; commends everyone involved with Wimpy Park Community Group for their hard work, vision and dedication in creating a sense of local ownership and pride, and wishes the group and the wider community every continued success.
