Congratulating Dr Manu De Rycker on WH Pierce Global Impact in Microbiology Prize

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Dr Manu De Rycker, who is a Principal Investigator at the University of Dundee’s School of Life Sciences, on being named as the winner of the WH Pierce Global Impact in Microbiology Prize; acknowledges that Dr De Rycker is Head of Biology at the University’s Drug Discovery Unit, leading the kinetoplastid and antifungals drug discovery programmes at the institution; understands that the prize was awarded to Dr De Rycker for his groundbreaking contributions to global challenges through applied microbiology; notes that the honour was awarded by Applied Microbiology International, which is an institution that holds the title as Britain’s oldest microbiology society and is a global society with half of its members residing outside of the UK; recognises that Dr De Rycker received the honour for his work on neglected tropical diseases, such as African sleeping sickness, which disproportionally impact on people in the impoverished regions that are affected by them; notes that the University continues to demonstrate its talent on the global stage for drug discovery, and wishes Dr De Rycker, and his team, continued success for the future.
