Energy Profits Levy

That the Parliament notes that the Chancellor of the Exchequer’s Budget announcement on 26 November 2025 confirmed that the Energy Profits Levy would remain in place until 2030; agrees with comments published in The Scotsman on 27 November, in the article, Will the last person to leave the oil industry please turn off the lights, that the North Sea sector will be “taxed to death inside five years”; believes that the levy is harming the offshore energy industry, leading to huge job losses among the skilled workforce and a reduction of investment that is making it harder to make the just transition to net zero a reality; condemns the UK Government for refusing to take this opportunity to listen to the voices from the industry and academia that have been warning of the negative impact that the levy is having; posits that this lack of action indicates that the UK Government does not care about Scotland or the economy of Aberdeen and the north east, and believes that this underlines the need for Scotland to be an independent nation with full control over its own resources and natural wealth.
