Motion · S6M-20152 · 11 Dec 2025
Congratulations to Professor Chris Soulsby
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates University of Aberdeen hydrologist, Professor Chris Soulsby, who is due to receive the Langbein Award from the American Geophysical Union (AGU) at its December 2025 meeting in New Orleans; notes that the award, which was established in 1991, commemorates the legacy of Walter B Langbein, to recognise “lifetime contributions to hydrologic science and unselfish scientific cooperation”; understands that Professor Soulsby, who has carried out research in every continent, except Antarctica, since joining the University of Aberdeen in 1993, will be receiving the award in recognition of his international leadership in tracer hydrology and the application of isotopes in understanding stream flow generation and the complex pathways and timescales of water movement through the landscape; believes that Professor Soulsby should be rightly proud of this recognition of his life’s work and achievements, and wishes him all the best with his keynote speech at the AGU Fall Meeting, and all his future endeavours.
