Falkirk Council Gardener Named Employee of the Year at Keep Britain Tidy Green Flag Awards 2025
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Falkirk Council gardener Garry Wilson on being named Employee of the Year at the Keep Britain Tidy Green Flag Awards in November 2025; notes that Garry has been recognised for his exceptional contribution to maintaining and enhancing the Helix Park, which is situated between Falkirk and Grangemouth and is home to the iconic Kelpies sculptures; acknowledges that Garry has utilised his background in fine art to create a number of artworks at the Helix Park, which are often made entirely from reused natural materials found in the park itself; further acknowledges that some of Garry's creations include Silent Night, an owl-shaped log installation which also serves as a bug hotel, Stone Hedge, which is made of sandstone from a former farmhouse reused to prevent verge parking, Compass Cairn, which is a two-metre cairn incorporating quartz compass points, and Living Dead Hedge, which is a wildlife-friendly habitat and a natural frame for climbing plants comprised of oak posts and felled wood; commends Garry for his hard work and dedication to developing these practical park improvements and to enhancing this important green space with imagination and care for the environment; congratulates him on his award, and wishes him well in his future endeavours.
