North Berwick RNLI Volunteers Praised for Lifesaving Rescue

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the volunteer crew of the North Berwick RNLI lifeboat on receiving Letters of Commendation from the RNLI chief operating officer for their heroic rescue on 21 August 2024; notes that the crew, which is led by helm Fraser Fulton and supported by Steven and Vikki Selby, saved three family members who had been swept around 800 metres offshore during a paddleboarding incident in gale-force winds; praises the crew for their efforts, which saw the lifeboat launched and reaching the casualties within six minutes, ensuring their safe recovery and preventing further danger; acknowledges that the incident was featured on BBC Two’s Saving Lives at Sea, highlighting the professionalism and dedication of RNLI volunteers; commends the North Berwick station for its 28 launches and seven lives saved in 2024, and recognises the vital role of RNLI volunteers in protecting lives along Scotland’s coastline.
