Labour Ignoring and Abandoning Aberdeen and the North East
The motion
That the Parliament condemns the UK Labour administration for, it considers, ignoring and abandoning the north east of Scotland; notes that the Scottish Local Growth Fund, which was recently announced by the Secretary of State for Scotland, Douglas Alexander, completely excludes the north east of Scotland, as well as various other regions outside Scotland’s central belt, including the Highlands and Islands, Argyll and Bute, and Dumfries and Galloway; believes that this is evidence of the UK Government’s narrow central belt focus, and betrays a total lack of interest in helping people and communities in areas such as Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire; calls on the UK Government to respect the devolved settlement, stop trying to bypass the Scottish Parliament, and allow Scotland’s elected government to decide how such funds should be allocated in Scotland, and posits that the only way to ensure that Scottish funding is spent properly is with the full powers of independence.
