East Lothian Reads
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes East Lothian Council’s new East Lothian Reads project, which will run throughout 2026 and which the council hopes will inspire people of all ages to make reading a daily habit; notes that the project’s key message is that reading is for everyone and that reading for pleasure can help all of us, not only in education and attainment, but also with mental health and wellbeing, as well as with wider life opportunities; understands that, while the East Lothian Libraries Team will play a lead role in the project, the council is also seeking to involve the wider community by recruiting reading ambassadors and encouraging groups across the county to take part, and commends the council and, in particular, East Lothian Library Services, for their central role in co-ordinating East Lothian Reads and taking its key message out into the heart of all of East Lothian’s communities, and looks forward to following the project’s work during 2026.
