The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the news that the Belmont Cinema in Aberdeen has been awarded £87,438 of development funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund; notes that the project aims to refurbish and re-open the cinema for the cultural benefit of everyone in Aberdeen, celebrating the city’s cultural and film heritage; understands that this funding is the first step towards the potential subsequent delivery funding of £1,448,656 from the Heritage Fund, and will support Belmont Community Cinema Ltd in undertaking surveys and planning capital repairs to the building, as well as enabling the design of an engagement programme that focuses on the cinema’s social history and developing plans for an initiative to revive traditional analogue projection skills; believes that this funding will help bring a much-loved cultural institution in Aberdeen back into use; congratulates Belmont Community Cinema Ltd on being awarded this funding, and hopes that the project is a huge success.
