Glasgow Film Theatre Named Among the Top 100 Cinemas in the World

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Glasgow Film Theatre on being named among the top 100 cinemas in the world by Time Out magazine; notes that the theatre was ranked 59th globally and has previously been recognised as one of the leading cinemas in the UK; considers that it has had the status of being the “beating heart” of Glasgow’s film scene since opening on Rose Street in 1939, serving generations of filmgoers for more than eight decades; understands the vital role that it plays in showcasing independent, international, classic and contemporary cinema, as well as supporting film festivals, education programmes and community outreach initiatives; acknowledges its significant contribution to Glasgow’s cultural identity, night-time economy and tourism sector, and commends the management, staff, volunteers and loyal audiences whose continued dedication ensures that this historic venue remains a cornerstone of Scotland’s vibrant creative and cultural life.
