St Laurence Church in Forres Becomes Community Venue
The motion
That the Parliament notes that, on 18 March 2026, St Laurence Church in Forres, Moray, was sold by the Church of Scotland to the St Laurence Forres Trust; understands that the group has ambitious plans to convert the iconic building on Forres High Street into an events venue; notes that generous donations from local individuals and businesses, as well as a grant from the Scottish Land Fund, allowed the trust to secure the venue; further notes that four churches have been built on this site dating back to 1275, with the current impressive building being 120 years old; commends the trust chairman, James Campbell, honorary president, Major General Seymour Monro, and everyone involved with the trust for their efforts to secure a positive future for St Laurence Church by creating this welcoming and vibrant hub for the community; understands that St Laurence will be a venue in the heart of Forres for music, arts and cultural events, while ensuring the beautiful building remains a home for weddings, funerals and other milestones, as it has been for centuries, and wishes St Laurence Forres Trust every success for the future.
