The Last Foundations
The motion
That the Parliament recognises the importance of the new arts and heritage project, The Last Foundations, which marks 30 years since the demolition of Ravenscraig’s iconic cooling towers and gas holders; notes the significant role that Ravenscraig played in Scotland’s industrial history as one of Western Europe’s largest steelworks, employing more than 13,000 people at its peak; welcomes the project’s work with former steelworkers, residents and community groups to preserve personal stories and local heritage through photography, film and oral history; believes that arts and culture projects play an important role in reflecting community identity, supporting intergenerational understanding and preserving Scotland’s industrial legacy, and commends all those involved in delivering the project across Motherwell, Wishaw and the wider Lanarkshire area.
