HPV Self-Sampling and Cervical Cancer Prevention in Scotland
The motion
That the Parliament welcomes the Scottish Government’s rollout of high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) self-sampling kits as part of its commitment to eliminate cervical cancer in Scotland by 2040; notes reported concerns that cervical screening participation remains below the national target, with current uptake at around 63%; recognises that early detection through screening significantly improves treatment outcomes and saves lives; believes that HPV self-sampling can help remove barriers to participation by providing greater accessibility, privacy and convenience for those unable or reluctant to attend appointments, and commends healthcare professionals, charities and community organisations working to improve women’s health outcomes and reduce preventable cancers across Scotland.
