Commending East Linton Schoolchildren for Leading Wildlife-Friendly Grow Not Mow Initiative

That the Parliament commends the efforts of schoolchildren in East Linton who have inspired their community to adopt a “grow not mow” approach to lawn care in support of local wildlife; recognises that pupils from East Linton Primary School have played a leading role in encouraging residents and local businesses to participate in the Plantlife initiative, No Mow May, including by creating a wildflower seed hub, raising awareness through community engagement and securing changes to local grounds maintenance; notes that this initiative aims to restore habitats for pollinators, such as bees and butterflies by allowing grasses and wildflowers to grow; further notes the significant long-term decline in flower-rich meadows and the importance of community action in reversing biodiversity loss; praises the leadership, creativity and environmental awareness demonstrated by these children; considers that their work reflects a wider and welcome shift towards more sustainable and nature-friendly land management practices; highlights the importance of empowering young people to take meaningful action on environmental issues, and calls on communities, councils and organisations across Scotland to support similar initiatives that protect biodiversity and promote climate resilience.
