Celebrating the 110 year anniversary of Balloch Castle Country Park

The motion

That the Parliament celebrates 110 years of public access to Balloch Castle Country Park; understands that the Park, known then as Loch Lomond Park, was first opened to the public on 1 July 1916 by Glasgow Corporation; understands that the official opening ceremony at the South Lodge gates was attended by a number of distinguished VIP's, including Sir Thomas Dunlop and his wife, who performed the duty of opening the gates and led the planting of commemorative trees; acknowledges the historical and cultural significance of Balloch Castle and its surrounding parkland to the community of West Dunbartonshire and visitors from across Scotland and beyond; pays tribute to the efforts of those who have preserved and maintained the park as a cherished public space, and encourages continued support for the conservation and enhancement of Balloch Castle Country Park as a treasured part of Scotland’s natural and historical heritage.
