Diabetes Week 2026

The motion

That the Parliament notes that Diabetes Week 2026 takes place from 8 to 14 June; understands that every annual Diabetes Week focuses on raising awareness of diabetes, increasing understanding of the condition and its impact on individuals, families and communities across Scotland as well as improving the lives of people living with, and at risk of, diabetes; recognises that diabetes is a complex condition, which affects over 367,000 people in Scotland; notes with concern reports that 8 out of 10 people living with diabetes say they have faced negative attitudes because of their diabetes; commends Diabetes UK’s Strike Out Stigma campaign for raising awareness of the stigma, misconceptions and discrimination that people living with diabetes can experience in education, employment, healthcare and everyday life; acknowledges the campaign’s efforts to challenge harmful stereotypes and work towards ensuring people living with diabetes are treated with dignity, respect and understanding; commends what is sees as the vital work of Diabetes Scotland in leading advocacy, education and peer support initiatives for people with diabetes across the country, and calls on MSPs, individuals, organisations and policymakers to support initiatives that improve awareness, tackle stigma and help create a more inclusive Scotland for everyone affected by diabetes.
