Rowie Added to the Oxford English Dictionary

The motion

That the Parliament welcomes the news that rowie has finally been added to the Oxford English Dictionary; recognises that the north east roll was invented in the 19th century for fisherman to keep longer than bread; notes that the first evidence of the name rowie in print was found in the Aberdeen Journal in 1898; understands that the rowie was temporarily banned by the Ministry of Food during The Great War due to shortages of lard; remembers that health guru, Gillian McKeith, also tried to ban rowies in 2006 as she felt they were too unhealthy; agrees that the proper name is a rowie, or an Aberdeen roll, never a buttery, and celebrates the distinct Doric dialect that is an intrinsic part of the culture in the north east of Scotland.
