St Cyrus Beach Recognised as One of the UK’s Best Beaches
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates the dedicated staff and volunteers at St Cyrus National Nature Reserve on its recognition as one of the best beaches in the UK in the 18th annual Times and Sunday Times 50 Best UK Beaches Guide; notes that St Cyrus was among six beaches in the north and north east of Scotland to feature in the guide; recognises the outstanding natural heritage of the reserve, including its dune system, which is one of the most botanically diverse habitats in the UK and supports 328 plant species, 160 varieties of birds and 548 species of insects; notes that the 375-million-year-old Heughs of St Cyrus lava cliffs shelter the reserve below and create a unique microclimate that supports a rich diversity of wildlife; commends all involved in the management and protection of the reserve for helping to preserve this nationally important natural asset, and encourages continued enjoyment of and appreciation for one of Scotland’s most remarkable coastal environments.
