Joe Cairney’s Everest Challenge for Blood Bikes Scotland
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Joe Cairney, of North Berwick, on completing the remarkable feat of climbing North Berwick Law 63 times over the course of almost three days, reaching and surpassing the height of Mount Everest; notes that Joe, aged 63, undertook the challenge in support of Blood Bikes Scotland, a volunteer-led charity that provides a free medical transport service for NHS Scotland; recognises that he completed the challenge despite difficult weather conditions and covered approximately 79 miles while ascending more than 9,000 metres; notes that the effort has raised in excess of £11,900 for Blood Bikes Scotland; commends Joe’s determination, resilience and community spirit; acknowledges what it sees as the invaluable work carried out by Blood Bikes Scotland volunteers in transporting blood, medicines, medical equipment, samples and other essential items across Scotland; thanks all those who supported Joe throughout the challenge, including family, friends and members of the local community, and wishes Blood Bikes Scotland every success in its continuing efforts to support patients, NHS staff and communities across the country.
