ALLOTMENTS

That this House notes the benefits allotments provide to local communities, and particularly to pensioners, providing an outdoor activity, encouraging people to grow their own produce and promoting gardening and horticulture and a healthy lifestyle; further notes that many local authorities have had to sell land occupied by allotments as a result of development pressures; and calls on the Government to work with local authorities not only to stop a further loss of this provision but to encourage the availability of a greater number of allotments in local communities.
