The motion

That this House believes that universal jurisdiction for human rights abuses is essential as part of the cause of bringing to justice those who commit crimes against humanity; and welcomes the Director of Public Prosecution's statement thatwhen there is sufficient evidence and it is in the public interest, there should be a prosecution and that the Crown Prosecution Service would prosecute andwill monitor the effectiveness of any new arrangements for pursuing universal jurisdiction cases to ensure they provide a swift and effective means of bringing those responsible for crimes such as war crimes, genocide, torture and hostage-taking to justice.
