RELEASE OF MOHAMEDOU OULD SLAHI FROM GUANTANAMO BAY

That this House warmly welcomes the news that after 14 years of imprisonment without charge Mohamedou Ould Slahi, the acclaimed author of the Guantanamo Diary, has been released from Guantanamo Bay and reunited with his family in Mauritania; congratulates the legal team led by Nancy Hollander for their years of work in campaigning for Mohamedou Ould Slahi's release; condemns the torture he received in Guantanamo Bay through his designation as one of two special projects personally approved by then Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld; notes that the former Chief Prosecutor at Guantanamo Bay has stated that the US administration has no further evidence that Mohamedou Ould Slahi engaged in acts of hostility towards the US; applauds Mohamedou Ould Slahi for writing an award winning 466 page handwritten manuscript about his time in Guantanamo Bay; and calls on the Government to press the US President to honour his previous intentions to close Guantanamo Bay.
