The motion
That this House expresses grave concern regarding the on-going suffering of the Syrian people; notes that, in the statement of UN Security Council Resolution 2254 (2015) which states that the only sustainable solution to the current crisis in Syria is through an inclusive and Syrian-led political process that meets the legitimate aspirations of the Syrian people; expresses further concern that the Democratic Federation of Northern Syria (DFNS) has been excluded from the political process thus far; recognises the major contribution played by the DFNS in the battle to defeat ISIS and the high price that has been paid for this contribution; praises the inclusive anti-sectarian and gender equality principles that underpin the system of administration of the DFNS; further acknowledges that this region of Syria has accepted around two million refugees and internally displaced people and has provided a stable and secure base for them within the region; and calls for the DFNS and all legitimate groups to be invited to negotiations in any peace talks that resume.
