The National Planning Forum’s Major Trauma Oversight Group has been tasked with looking at ways to enhance major trauma services in Scotland.
Its work to establish the most appropriate model of major trauma care for Scotland is ongoing, with involvement from clinicians from across Scotland and the Scottish Ambulance Service. Whatever the agreed model, Aberdeen and Dundee will have an essential role within the network.
I expect this work to be completed by summer 2016, and Scottish Ministers will then consider its outcomes.

The Business Register and Employment Survey (BRES) is the preferred source of employment estimates by detailed geographical area and industry sector. BRES estimates are not available on a full-time equivalent basis, however estimates for full-time and part-time employees are published.

Manufacturing employee estimates for 2010 to 2014 in Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire, Angus and Dundee City local authority areas are provided in the following tables, each for full-time, part-time and total employees.

Employee - An employee is anyone aged 16 years or over that an organisation directly pays from its payroll(s), in return for carrying out a full-time or part-time job or being on a training scheme. It excludes voluntary workers, self-employed, working owners who are not paid via PAYE.
Full-time employees: Those working more than 30 hours per week.
Part-time employees: Those working 30 hours or less per week.

The preferred source for earnings estimates is the Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings, which is produced by the Office for National Statistics.

The most recent estimates of the cost of obesity were produced to support the obesity route map.
a) These included an estimate of 2.6 million days of work lost annually, valued at £175 million, and 4,480 years of working lives lost, valued at £87 million. (2007-08 prices)
b) The direct costs to the NHS of overweight and obesity were valued at £312 million (2007-08). A recent Scottish Parliament Information Centre briefing (15/01) on Obesity in Scotland calculated that this was equivalent to £363 million in 2015.
Overall the estimates for the route map indicated that taking into account loss of productivity attributable to loss of life or impaired life quality, the direct health care costs, and the additional needed to investment to mitigate the impact of obesity, the total economic cost of obesity to Scotland could lie between £0.6 billion and £4.6 billion a year.

Table 3.5a provides the information available on hourly rates of pay for female part-time employees in Scotland and across the regions of the United Kingdom. Indicative counts for the number of jobs are provided alongside all estimates. These are intended to provide a broad idea of the numbers of employee jobs but they should not be considered accurate estimates.

Data for the UK is also supplied in the following table to enable a more valid comparison of Scotland data with data from Eurostat, as the estimates for the UK vary slightly from those derived by the Scottish Government due to differences in methodology and datasets used for these queries.
