Hold a referendum on assisted dying

What the petition asks
The recent private members bill on assisted dying showed parliament offering contempt for the will of the public. This matter must be decided in a referendum.
A cross parliamentary committee should be established to look at possible methods and safeguards, and to consult with members of the public.
The public should then be asked to vote not just on whether to have Assisted Dying but also on which options should be available - for example, whether it should be available to the terminally ill only, or whether people should be helped to die on the grounds of non terminal suffering.
