What the petition asks
We want those suffering terminal illnesses to be allowed a dignified death, but MPs and political parties don't want to risk the backlash from those who disagree. We need a national referendum to decide whether to legalise assisted dying.
Assisted dying is legal is several countries but must always have rigorous safeguards. For example, any request should first be approved by a court.

There was a national referendum on the Alternative Vote in May 2011. A referendum on assisted dying could take the same form.
