What the petition asks
The Government launched the Help to Buy ISA scheme in 2015 claiming it would help first time buyers obtain a deposit by boosting savings by 25%. On Friday 19 August, the Treasury told the Daily Telegraph that the bonus would not apply to the initial cash deposit. 500,000 set-up accounts before this.
