Petition · past parliament

Ensure televised 2017 election debates are held ‒ with or without Theresa May.

Rejected 17 signatures

What the petition asks

Theresa May has announced there will be no televised debates for the 2017 General Election. This is undemocratic and an attempt to allow a Tory majority to be rushed through without any scrutiny of policies. The electorate has a right to see the key issues debated, with or without the PM.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

A decision about whether to host a debate would be the responsibility of the broadcasters, not the UK Government or Parliament.
