Make mental abuse and bullying illegal now!!!

What the petition asks
The impact of mental abuse is profound, long term and increasingly costly and damaging to individuals, organisations, society and the economy. Some estimates £100bn p.a. in the UK.
There are laws protecting us from physical but not mental abuse, which is often more hidden, costly and devastating to remedy. This is reaching epidemic proportions which society desperately needs to address if we are all to thrive, live valuable and meaningful lives and do unto others as we would wish done unto us.
We can no longer afford to simply turn away, do nothing and allow evil to flourish. Please will you help to make this a better world for all and sign and forward this petition now!!!

Why it was rejected
There was already a petition about this issue. Duplicates are rejected so signatures collect in one place.
There are already a number of offences relating to causing alarm or distress, but we have published the following petition, which you might like to sign:
Make bullying a specific criminal offence: Make bullying a specific criminal offence
We could accept a petition calling for other behaviours to be made a specific criminal offence, but it's not clear exactly what you mean by "mental abuse".
