Petition · past parliament

Do not drop the plans to cap MP's earnings from second jobs.

Rejected 9 signatures

What the petition asks

To implement new rules to prevent MP's from having highly lucrative secondary employment, sitting on boards of companies, or undertaking additional work that takes away their focus from their main role, to represent their constituents.
Being an MP is a demanding but well paid job. The role of an MP is to represent their constituents interests, and work on the governance of the country. There should be no need to take on highly lucrative secondary work, sit on the boards of companies, or work for other organisations whose interests may not align with the fundamental role of an MP. Taking on secondary work opens up the possibility of undue influence, nepotism, and is a distraction from the primary function of the role of an MP.
