Establish professional standards for elected representatives.

Rejected 9 signatures

What the petition asks

There have been too many examples of dishonesty, xenophobia and general unpleasant behaviour from our elected representatives who seem to act as if they are above the law.
I would like to suggest that rules relating to professional standards for elected representatives are clear and easily enforced. There should be a simple mechanism to prevent miscreants from holding such office in the future.

Why it was rejected

It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.

We understand you're concerned about professional standards for elected representatives, however it's not clear what you want those standards to be. It's also not clear how these standards differ from those already in place through the MPs Code of Conduct, breaches of which are investigated by the Committee on Standards following a referral by the independent Parliamentary Commissioner on Standards. You can find out more about the Commissioner here: https://www.parliament.uk/mps-lords-and-offices/standards-and-financial-interests/parliamentary-commissioner-for-standards/
