Stop OFGEM increasing the energy cap in October 2022
Rejected
21 signatures
What the petition asks
The government should prevent OFGEM increasing the energy cap in October 2022 and either maintain it at its current level or lower it. The government should also consider taking the same action in January 2023 if necessary.
These actions will help considerably to tackle the current cost of living crisis.
Why it was rejected
It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.
The calculation of the energy price cap is a matter for the regulator Ofgem, which is operationally independent of the UK Government and House of Commons. You can find out more about how the price cap is calculated here: https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/information-consumers/energy-advice-households/check-if-energy-price-cap-affects-you.
