Reverse the price "CAP" for utilities and set realistic prices

Rejected 13 signatures

What the petition asks

Maximum 20p per kWh for electricity
Maximum 5p per kWh for gas
Scrap daily standing charges
That's what a CAP should be.
Nationalise the utility market if prices cannot be contained, people's lives are at risk.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

The calculation of the energy price cap is a matter for the regulator Ofgem, which is operationally independent of the UK Government and House of Commons. You can find out more about how the price cap is calculated here: https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/information-consumers/energy-advice-households/check-if-energy-price-cap-affects-you.
