Reduce the price of sanitary products

What the petition asks
The prices for these items are ridiculous and we have to buy them because it is unhygienic if we don't and every woman has a period. You should increase the price of non-essential items that are purchased for an optional activity. Periods are NOT optional.
Condoms are completely free, yet sex is optional. I understand the need for safe sex, however, millions of women go through period poverty not just in the UK. But the UK is a good place to start. Periods are not optional, women have them every month and are subjects to paying the "pink tax", the term coined to describe the additional expense incurred from simply being a woman. I believe that sanitary products should be free so women can stop paying extreme prices for something we cannot control.
Why it was rejected
It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.
We can only accept petitions about things the Government or Parliament are directly responsible for.
The Government is not responsible for the price of sanitary products - these are a matter for manufacturers and retailers - but we have published the following petition, which you might like to sign:
Fund free period products for all: Fund free period products for all
