Bring Universal Credit into line with cost of living increases

What the petition asks

• Remove the two-child limits on claims for Universal Credit;
• Introduce an inflation-linked threshold that triggers a review of Universal Credit to bring it in line with the cost of living;
• Extend the provision of free school meals to children for all school holidays.

The Trussell Trust, and Joseph Rankin Foundation, have estimated that a single person in the UK needs to spend £35 per week more than they will be eligible for on Universal Credit, solely on the essentials. Families with children are particularly affected, and food poverty has a detrimental effect on health, education, and a variety of other problems. We urge the government to stand up for those most in need.

Universal Credit is already increased in line with inflation each year, and were most recently increased by 10.1% in April.

We could accept a petition calling for Universal Credit payments to be further increased, but it would need to be clear how much you wanted these to be increased by, or how you wanted this increase to be calculated.
