Scottish Youth Parliament's Call for Cheaper Public Transport
The motion
As an amendment to motion S4M-01104 in the name of Aileen McLeod (Scottish Youth Parliament's Call for Cheaper Public Transport), insert at end "and believes that an important way to improve public transport for young people is through re-regulating Scotland’s bus services; considers that the Regulation of Bus Services (Scotland) Bill lodged by Charlie Gordon MSP on 4 November 2008 would have improved bus services across Scotland for all passengers; notes that it sought to extend concessionary travel, to make it easier for local authorities to regulate local bus services and to strengthen the role of local people in the operation of bus services; considers that this legislation would have given young people a real opportunity to have a say in the running of their local bus services in both urban and rural areas; notes that this legislation was proposed in response to passenger frustration with bus services, and considers with regret that it fell as a result of SNP colleagues failing to support it in the Parliament."
