Support for Rome Declaration

The motion

That the Parliament endorses the declaration of the assembly of world parliamentarians which met in Rome on 4 November 2000 on the urgent need for debt relief for poor countries, for positive action to tackle the disadvantages of globalisation, and to promote human dignity and freedom; acknowledges the significant progress made by Her Majesty's Government towards these objectives, and welcomes the decision of Pope John Paul II to designate Sir Thomas More as the patron saint of statesmen and politicians.
