Assynt Foundation
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates the Assynt Foundation on its success in raising the £2.9 million needed to exercise its right to buy the Glencanisp and Drumrunie estates and Glencanisp Lodge; commends all those individuals, government agencies and other organisations who have contributed funds; welcomes the transfer of the beautiful and iconic Assynt mountains to community ownership; recognises the historic significance of returning land that was emptied of people during the Highland Clearances back to local management, and wishes the people of Assynt well in achieving their ambitions to develop the land sustainably for the benefit of current and future generations.
