The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Woking Borough Council on its pioneering town centre decentralised energy network; notes that, by utilising microgeneration and combined heat and power and by implementing imaginative energy efficiency measures, the scheme has managed to reduce carbon emissions by no less than 77%; further notes that Woking’s example is inspiring London and other cities to adopt similar models; believes that there is no reason why Scottish towns and cities should not benefit from decentralised energy networks such as Woking’s, and calls on the Scottish Executive to do everything in its power to help Scottish communities who wish to adopt similar decentralised networks in order to enjoy the environmental, social and economic benefits that will inevitably follow.
