The motion

That the Parliament congratulates Thorntree Primary School in Greenfield in the east end of Glasgow on receiving a £10,000 Awards for All grant from the Big Lottery Fund; notes that the school plans to use the funding to meet the costs of sports coaching and equipment, venue hire, transport costs and volunteer expenses; considers that these changes will help encourage an active lifestyle for pupils at the school and get them involved in sports and fitness; recognises the national impact of Awards for All Scotland, supported by the Scottish Arts Council, sportscotland and the Big Lottery Fund, which awards grants of between £500 and £10,000 for people to take part in art, sport, heritage and community activities and projects that promote education, the environment and health in the local community; expresses concern at UK Government proposals to cut Big Lottery funding, and considers that this is likely to have a detrimental impact on countless community groups and schools throughout Scotland in the future, especially the 2014 Communities programme that has sought to establish a legacy of sport throughout Glasgow beyond the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
