Taking Action at the Haudagain Roundabout

That the Parliament welcomes Aberdeen City Council’s decision to seek to speed up the progress of work at the Haudagain roundabout in Aberdeen by bringing the work forward and working in partnership with Transport Scotland to ensure that it can be delivered before 2019; regrets what it considers the Scottish Government’s position that no work to alleviate the chronic congestion problems at the roundabout will be carried out until after the completion of the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route in 2018; considers that there is a need to work with the community in Middlefield in order to achieve these improvements and deliver long-awaited regeneration in the area; notes the estimates of the cost of the delays at the Haudagain roundabout to the local economy, which were in the region of £15 to £30 million per year, and calls on the Scottish Government to reconsider its position on the timescale for work at the roundabout and work with Aberdeen City Council to deliver the project on a more ambitious timescale.
