Celebrating Traditional Building Skills

That the Parliament recognises the architectural and historical significance of Scotland’s traditional buildings; further recognises the importance of the skills necessary to sustain traditional buildings, including masonry, joinery and roofing; acknowledges what it considers the success of the second Edinburgh Traditional Building Festival, which was part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe; understands that the festival built on the success of the traditional building skills demonstration that took place during Scottish Apprenticeship Week on 20–21 May 2013 at St Andrew’s Square; commends the Stone Federation Great Britain, the National Federation of Roofing Contractors, Edinburgh World Heritage Trust and the Construction Industry Training Board for sponsoring and organising the event, which celebrated the skills and materials required to repair and maintain Scotland’s traditional buildings; notes that the event was also supported by Historic Scotland and Edinburgh College, highlighting continued collaboration across the supply chain for the benefit of the industry; further notes plans for the Glasgow Traditional Building Festival, and commends all those across Scotland who work to develop traditional building skills.
