East Kilbride Action Plan
The motion
That the Parliament notes the work of the East Kilbride Task Force and its action plan for the town; welcomes what it considers the strong partnership approach to address economic development in East Kilbride among members of the task force, including South Lanarkshire Council, Scottish Enterprise, Skills Development Scotland, Lanarkshire Chamber of Commerce, Business Gateway Lanarkshire, South Lanarkshire College and the owners of East Kilbride Shopping Centre, Delancey; understands that the action plan focuses activity on four key themes and that these are East Kilbride’s vibrant town centre, East Kilbride as a competitive business location, East Kilbride as an attractive location to live, work and relax and East Kilbride as an education and skills centre; further welcomes the decision of the executive committee of South Lanarkshire Council on 4 December 2013 to note and approve the terms of the action plan and use the plan as a focus for investment in the town over the next three to five years; considers the action plan to be a thorough response by the council and its partners to a decline in the manufacturing workforce in East Kilbride and economic shocks affecting the town; further considers it to be a useful blueprint for the recovery and regeneration of the local economy in the coming years, and wishes the East Kilbride Task Force success in resourcing and implementing the action plan.
