We established and wholly fund respectme, a national anti-bullying service, to build confidence and capacity to tackle bullying effectively, aligned to the national approach. respectme provide direct support to local authorities, schools, youth groups and all those working with children and young people.
respectme responded to the Tackling Bullying in Scottish Schools campaign on 20 January 2016.

This government wants every child and young person in Scotland to grow up free from bullying and to develop respectful, responsible and confident relationships. Bullying of any kind is unacceptable and must be addressed quickly, whenever it arises.
Curriculum for Excellence seeks to empower the teaching profession, enabling practitioners to teach more creatively and providing flexibility so that teachers, schools and local authorities can identify and pursue their own approaches to meeting experiences and outcomes. The experiences and outcomes describe the expectations for learning and progression in all areas of the curriculum. Within that context, it would not be appropriate for the Scottish Government to prescribe any one programme for any specific issue.
While the Curriculum for Excellence framework is set at a national level, it is up to local authorities and schools to determine how they will deliver the curriculum to best suit the children and young people in their area.

Anti-bullying policies are in place in all 32 authorities. respectme has formed positive and productive partnerships with 29 of the 32 local authorities in the development and implementation of their anti-bullying policies. Two of the outstanding authorities have made contact with respectme to further develop their policies, and the other will be invited to engage with respectme post-April 2016.

Registered professionals who deliver services relating to the habilitation and rehabilitation of people with sensory impairment are subject to statutory regulation by their own regulatory bodies.
Social service workers in the public, voluntary and private sectors in Scotland must register with the Scottish Social Services Council if they provide care services registered under the categories “care at home”, “adult care homes” and “day care of children”.

The Scottish Government’s sensory impairment strategy recommends that the Scottish Government should work with the relevant education, training and qualification bodies to explore opportunities to increase awareness and expertise in the area of sensory impairment awareness.
Discussions are ongoing with various agencies and a rehabilitation training course will take place in the spring of 2016 for rehabilitation workers across various local authorities. This training course has been funded using sensory impairment strategy funding.
