Glasgow City Council Named the Best Local Authority in the UK
The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Glasgow City Council on being named Council of the Year by the Local Government Chronicle;understands that this is the most coveted and hotly-contested award of its kind in the sector and that the council faced fierce competition from the other finalists, Cheshire West and Chester, East Riding of Yorkshire, Chelmsford City, South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse councils; understands that the judges praised Glasgow's drive and leadership and singled out its determination to ensure that all of its citizens share in the city’s success; notes that it was also named a runner-up in the Partnership of the Year category in recognition of its Commonwealth Employment Initiatives programme, which is part of the £50 million Glasgow Guarantee; understands that this initiative has helped around 5,750 people find jobs, apprenticeships or training places, and thanks the staff, services and partners who continue to make Glasgow and its people flourish.
