Report from the Commission on Housing and Wellbeing

The motion

That the Parliament congratulates the Commission on Housing and Wellbeing, which was chaired by the former Auditor General, Robert Black, on the publication of what it considers its valuable final report, which makes a series of significant, evidence-based recommendations for local and national government as well as key housing sector delivery partners regarding future priorities and policies to improve housing conditions and general wellbeing in Eastwood and across Scotland; considers that the commission undertook a wide-ranging consultation with organisations and individuals across Scotland to understand the challenges in meaningfully tackling Scotland’s homes crisis; believes that investment in good housing not only creates jobs and provides training opportunities, but is also a key area for preventative spending investment as it delivers positive health, education and environmental sustainability outcomes for individuals and communities; further believes that the commission’s report provides a blueprint for where priorities and resources should be placed to improve wellbeing in Scotland, and notes calls for the Scottish Government to take forward the outlined priority recommendations from this document as swiftly as possible.
