James Connolly and the 1916 Rising

As an amendment to motion S4M-13446 in the name of Kenny MacAskill (James Connolly and the 1916 Rising), insert at end ''but, in doing so, recognises what it considers the irony inherent in a motion being lodged in the Parliament that reflects political views that, if expressed or sung at a football ground in Scotland, would leave people open to prosecution under the Offensive Behaviour at Football and Threatening Communications (Scotland) Act 2012, which was introduced for the Scottish Government by the motion’s submitter; notes what it considers the contempt with which this motion was greeted at the recent Fans Against Criminalisation public meeting in Glasgow, which heard from people charged under the 2012 Act for allegedly singing songs about the 1916 Easter Rising in Ireland and what it considers other spurious reasons, and notes calls for the repeal of what it sees as this draconian legislation at the earliest opportunity.''
