The motion
That the Parliament congratulates Shetland Islands Council on being awarded the Connect Project Delivery Award at Holyrood's 2015 ICT Connect Awards; understands that the Connect Awards recognise innovation and celebrates excellence in public sector organisations; acknowledges that Shetland Islands Council received the award for demonstrating best practice in the successful development and delivery of a resilient wireless network; notes that the prize was awarded for the team’s work on replacing the Pathfinder system, which was switched off in 2014 after six years of providing connections to council properties across the isles; believes that the replacement network was described as innovative, cost-effective and flexible and was created using commercial masts, fibre and satellite technology, linking around 60 sites from Unst to Fair Isle; commends what it sees as the hard work and creativity used to develop a solution, despite several challenges, and hopes that others will seek inspiration from Shetland Islands Council's ICT Service in demonstrating best practice in the successful delivery of an ICT project.
